Bryan and Stacy Pritchett got engaged and married
on the beach in Seagrove, Florida in 2002. While honeymooning
in Seaside, they devised a 2-year plan to leave their Corporate
America jobs in Dallas and move to the beach. Just six months
later, they traded cowboy boots for flip flops and headed
for Seagrove.
The Pritchetts opened Movies by the
Sea in April 2004 with a mission to put the fun back
into renting movies. It’s obvious as customers step
through the door that this is not an average video store.
The décor is cottage style with shelves constructed
of old shutters and hand painted signs adorning the walls.
A TV placed at kid-level beckons from the back corner of the
store so kids can hang out and play while their parents browse
for movies.
Movies by the Sea showcases
a large movie selection including new releases, kids, catalog,
documentary, foreign and independent films on DVD and VHS
format. Reminiscent of yesteryear, the shop has galvanized
buckets filled to the brim with Pop Rocks, Wax Lips, Candy
Necklaces, Necco Wafers and other retro treats. Visitors will
also be delighted to find old-fashioned toys like Chattering
Teeth, Balloon Powered Boats, Pick Up Sticks and Tiddly Winks.
There are unique children’s books
and just plain silly stuff like Chicken Chuckers,
Freeloader Forks, Naughty Cows and Worm Balls. Customers enjoy
the selection of flip flop picture frames, key rings, notepads
and magnets as well as Beach Mamas art, mail-ready photo albums
and other great gifts and souvenirs.
The motto of Movies
by the Sea is “Go to your happy place!”
Stop by soon to find out why. |
